Online database allows visitors to search for and select a retired racehorse for adoption or foster care.
Saratoga Springs, NY August 6, 2008 - Thoroughbred Adoption Network (www.thoroughbredadoption.com), operated by the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, a national resource for Thoroughbreds available for adoption has launched a new Website featuring hundreds of retired Thoroughbred racehorses throughout the United States that are looking for a new start in life.
The Website was designed to help visitors adopt an ex-racehorse by allowing them to search for a horse with the attributes that they desire. The new adoption database features horses from qualified adoption and rescue groups from around the country who are in need of a new home.
"These are wonderful horses with much potential." stated Diana Pikulski, Executive Director of the TRF located in Saratoga Springs, "With the power of the Internet, we can bring together people across the country with horses that need homes."
Interested parties must first, complete an application process along with providing references. In addition, an organization employee or volunteer may visit the farm or place where the horse is to be boarded to make sure the facilities are adequate. Secure stabling arrangements are a must before an adoption can be finalized. Upon approval of the adoption application, the organization will look for a horse that best suits the needs and desires of the new owner. While the organization typically has a large number of horses available for adoption, they take great pains to find the right horse for the adopting party. The process can take a month or longer.
The site was designed by Saratoga Springs Web firm, Mountain Media and is powered by their Mountain Commerce software which allows clients such as the Thoroughbred Adoption Network to manage the ever-changing content on their website through an easy-to-use backend interface. The organization uses the Mountain Commerce technology to ensure that the horses currently available for adoption are kept up-to-date with relevant information, descriptions and photos. Mountain Commerce also allows them to process adoption fees and donations through an online shopping cart and the platform is built to be Search engine friendly which means that, once deployed, a site is more likely to be found when relevant keywords are searched for in search engines such as Google. For example, at the time of this announcement, the site was ranked #1 on Google for the search phrase, "Thoroughbred adoption" (among other relevant phrases).
