Tickanchay.com Launches Web Site with Goal of Supporting Peruvian Artists

Saratoga Springs, NY (October 30, 2007) Mountain Media, a Saratoga web development company, has created a web site for Tikanchay, an Internet retailer that imports handcrafted sterling silver necklaces, silver earrings, and silver bracelets from Peru and purchased directly from the artists.

The word Tikanchay, which means to make beautiful, is derived from the ancient language of the Incas. The owners of Tikanchay.com say they specialize in Peruvian jewelry for two reasons: their appreciation of the beauty and artistry that goes into each piece of jewelry, and because of their commitment to helping the Peruvian artists who create it. The Connecticut-based web site has made it their mission to promote the self-sufficiency of the silversmiths who create the jewelry, thereby ensuring that these artisans are fairly compensated and able to sustain their entrepreneurial success.

In addition to the ecommerce portion of the site, Mountain Media created a customizable and scaleable online Travel Journal that the owners of Tikanchay.com can use to communicate the story of their travels and the progress the artisans have made on their road to self-sufficiency. The Journal can feature graphics and images from the trips and can be easily updated and changed using a suite of backend tools created especially for Tikanchay by Mountain Media.

This website is unlike anything we've ever created, says Dan Knight, Project Manager at Mountain Media. The owners of Tikanchay were absolutely committed to helping the Peruvian artists and the schools that work so hard to teach the Peruvian methods and traditions of crafting fine Sterling Silver Jewelry. The Travel Journal we created is a wonderful method for communicating their progress and for showcasing the Peruvian art they find to the entire world. Creating a suite of tools that keeps the Journal flexible and interesting for their visitors was our goal from the start and were very proud of the finished product.

Tikanchay.com has chosen the Cultural Institute of Cusco, which provides training in Peruvian artistic traditions to young mothers and the poor residents of Cusco, as the starting point for their mission. The Institute will shortly receive a shipment supplies and materials from Tikanchay.com, hand delivered by one of the companies founders, Elaine Rojas, as she travels to Peru to hand select the Sterling Silver jewelry to be featured on their website in time for the Christmas season.

Were delighted that Tikanchay.com chose Mountain Media as the ecommerce solution for their new website and we were happy to customize the software to give them exactly what they needed. I have no doubt that the folks at Tikanchay will produce real, measurable results for artisans in Peru and that the Mountain Commerce system will give them the tools and flexibility they need to grow. Were delighted to have had a role in this noble undertaking and look forward to watching Tikanchay succeed, adds Knight.
